MIMI & PAPA’S Everyday Amazing Almanac 365 Days of Old-time Newfangled Facts & Fun!
Ok, this is one of my most favorite books I’ve ever written! It shouldn’t be—it about killed my back! How? I set up my research all around an oversized drawing board. Day after day I sat on a tall wooden stool (until my behind and my legs and feet went to sleep!) and wrote 365 entries from the most fascinating and flabbergasting facts I could find. Since husband Bob and I once put all we owned in storage and traveled around America for a couple of years, collecting books and other research, I had a lot to work with for all 50 states! This book is not DATED, so you can start it any time of the year. Each month opens with a great illustration and a humorous poem. Subject matter includes history, geography, weather, science, disasters and catastrophes, riddles, wordplay, and so much more. Many entries include a comment from Mimi (me!) or Papa, and it’s clear that we don’t always agree! Great fun to read in school, at home, in the car on a trip, at the dinner table, or almost any other time. Kids love to read to adults, too, you know. And, actually, just how many books can you name that are wholesome and educational and equally entertaining for kids of all ages and their parents or grandparents? Great gift for kid, grandpa, teacher, librarian, or yourself. Sorry—like I said, one of my fave books. I read it! (No, I never remember anything I wrote!)
Talented SCAD grad, Dana Cohen, did the lovely illustrations for each poem; she’s also a talented chef!
